About the crop
Mint (in Turkey mostly spearmint, Mentha spicata) is used fresh and dried in food, cosmetics and health products. About three quarters of Turkish output comes from Gaziantep.
Growing difficulty: Easy It is a hardy perennial that spreads easily from rhizomes and runners.
- Growing regions
- Gaziantep leads Turkish production (73.9%), followed by Konya (8.3%) and Adana (2.5%) (TurkStat, 2024). Total national output is about 26,000 tonnes.
- Cultivation
- Grown mainly in the open field as a perennial planting; in Antalya there is limited greenhouse and garden production of fresh bunched mint.
