About the crop
Purslane is a leafy green with fleshy, juicy leaves, eaten in salads and cooked dishes; both cultivated and wild forms exist. About three quarters of Turkish output comes from Yalova.
Growing difficulty: Easy It tolerates heat and drought and grows quickly.
- Growing regions
- Yalova leads Turkish production (73.0%), followed by Eskişehir (6.3%) and Bursa (3.6%) (TurkStat, 2024). Total national output is about 14,000 tonnes.
- Cultivation
- Grown mainly in the open field; large-leaved cultivated varieties are grown in market gardens around cities, while the wild form grows by itself in many regions.
