About the crop
Chard is a leafy green whose leaves and stalks are cooked. Seventy percent of Turkish output comes from Hatay.
Growing difficulty: Easy It is hardy, and its leaves can be cut again and again over a long season.
- Growing regions
- Hatay leads Turkish production (70.0%), followed by Trabzon (9.5%) and İstanbul (4.7%) (TurkStat, 2024). Total national output is about 8,400 tonnes.
- Cultivation
- Grown mainly in the open field; in Antalya it is a winter open-field crop, with limited greenhouse production.
