About the crop
Two different greens are sold as tere: garden cress (Lepidium sativum), grown in soil, and watercress (Nasturtium officinale), grown in water or wet ground. Both are small-volume items sold by the bunch.
Growing difficulty: Moderate Garden cress is very quick and easy; watercress needs a constant supply of clean running water and takes more effort.
- Growing regions
- Eskişehir leads Turkish production (27.4%), followed by Adana (13.9%), Mersin (13.2%) and Antalya (12.2%) (TurkStat, 2024). TurkStat records garden cress and watercress as a single item; total national output is about 11,000 tonnes.
