About the crop
Cultivated blueberry production in Turkey has grown markedly since 2010; the sector is still expanding but small on a world scale. TurkStat records the crop under the name "maviyemiş".
Growing difficulty: Moderate
- Climate
- Needs a temperate climate; alongside northern highbush varieties with a high chilling requirement there are southern highbush varieties that need less chilling.
- Growing regions
- Bursa leads Turkish production (42.9%), closely followed by Antalya (38.9%) and then Kırklareli (6.6%) (TurkStat, 2024). Total national output is about 6,600 tonnes.
- Main challenges

- Grey mould (Botrytis) and other fungal rots
- Storage
- Store close to 0°C and at 90–95% relative humidity; humidity is critical to prevent water loss and shrivelling. A modified atmosphere of 15–20% CO2 and 5–10% O2 slows grey mould and softening.
