About the crop
Wild blackberries are common in Turkey's countryside, while cultivated production is small-scale and still developing. The fruit goes to the fresh market and to processing, such as jam and frozen products.
Growing difficulty: Moderate It is agronomically easy to cultivate, but the market is small; the choice between thorny and thornless varieties is decisive.

- Growing regions
- For cultivated blackberries, Bursa leads Turkish production (69.7%), followed by Siirt (7.9%) and Konya (5.0%) (TurkStat, 2024). Total national output is about 4,000 tonnes.

- Grey mould (Botrytis cinerea)
- Rapid softening and water loss after harvest
- Storage
- Rapid precooling to near 0°C after harvest is recommended; shelf life is about 5–7 days at 5°C and 1–2 weeks with a good cold chain. Relative humidity should be 90–95%; each hour of delay in cooling costs about 20% of shelf life.
